Ormonde Road

Here's where we are Ormonde Road, Yeronga.  The city centre is about 7km north of here.

Our second weekend in Oz was dedicated to house hunting.  We hired a car, bought a map and started trawling the suburbs.  Dave had gained some top tips from his colleagues about where was good to live. After reading the property pages of the Saturday paper we stumbled across Yeronga.  Tucked in a curve of the Brisbane river, spacious, quiet, leafy and suburban . Must be outside our our budget we thought - a lot of the houses come complete with jetty onto the river.  But our luck was in. The last estate agent we looked in just 15mins before its closing time yielded two promising houses, both with pools (not as common as you'd expect - and as for air conditioning, well that is almost non existent!).  The first house turned out to be like a caravan on stilts with atrocious decor but then we ventured into Ormonde Road.  It was a dream house.  We put our bid in first thing on the Monday morning and then just had to wait to see if they would accept us, (annoyingly someone else had also put a bid in so it was a head to head battle!). A tense 24hours passed but we were approved!!  We dashed to the estate agents and hurled cash at them to make sure it was ours. Then one week later we moved from Trumpy House to here!  After tracking down some furniture first!!!
