Liz and Dave's Aussie Adventures
Christmas 2002

It is strange having Christmas in December, the middle of summer!!

We spent Christmas 2002 with Liz's Mum and Dad, Alan and Linda. The celebrations started when they arrived on the 18th December.  It was great to be reunited and even though 4 months had passed since seeing them last, at Heathrow as we departed for Oz, it felt like only 5 mins.  The days leading up to Christmas were action packed with the usual shopping and preparations but there were dilemmas dilemmas, what do you have for Christmas dinner when it's 30 C and 70% humidity? When the evening temperature in the house barely drops below 25 C it is almost incomprehensible to put your oven and all the hob rings on in the middle of the day (on 25th Dec) to cook a Turkey and all the trimmings, we needed a plan. We wanted to have an Aussie style Christmas but still preserve some of the tradition that we were used to , the answer was to cook the Turkey on the BBQ!!  We tracked down a bird form our local butcher, harder than you think to buy a fresh Turkey in Oz.
We had a wonderful start to Christmas day, a quick dip in the pool before breckie on the deck.

Then we were all showered with gifts. Lunch was next, BBQed king prawns and salad out on the deck. We joined our neighbours Jan and Laurie and their family for a drink in the afternoon. Who would have thought it is possible to play crochet on Christmas day and also meet new neighbours from further up the street. Then it was back home to start BBQing the turkey. It was well worth the effort. We had a fantastic dinner and a most relaxing Christmas day.
